Values and ethos

Values and ethos

Aspire Academy special school, as part of the Wellsway Multi Academy Trust, serves the needs of pupils with SEMH within Bath and NE Somerset and beyond. Placing pupils at the heart of everything we do, we aim to guide and support them to be 'the best they possibly can be'.

Our motto 'Believe, Aspire, Achieve' is central to the work of our school. We want our pupils to believe in themselves, aspire to be the best they can be and then give them the tools to achieve this.

We believe that pupils should be exposed to a range of experiences in life and we are committed to lifelong learning. We strive to ensure that barriers to progress are knocked down, be they emotional, social or intellectual.

We aim to prepare students for the 21st century’s ever-changing employment landscape by making them independent individuals with adaptability and the will to succeed.

We are a learning institution as well as a teaching one, and we actively seek feedback and ideas to help us improve our provision for our vulnerable young people. As their needs change, so must we in order to best support their development. Our school has been through several iterations during the last 20 years and visitors often remark on how much we have changed over time - not just physically but in all aspects. In our striving for constant improvement we hope that visitors will always comment on how we rise to the challenges that we face in addressing the educational needs of all our pupils and see the value in our work.

We seek to reward not just academic progress but also improvements in behaviour and contributions to our lives in our school. We strongly believe in rewarding pupils who come to school every day and consistently try do the right thing.

We are proud of our achievements and we constantly strive to improve further.

Preparing for the future

Careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEAIG) at Aspire Academy is a progressive journey from Year 7-11. We aim to ensure that every student is supported to actively explore and develop their awareness and understanding of their potential career and educational paths.

Aspire Academy is committed to providing a rewarding Careers Programme that raises aspiration, encourages achievement and provides additional school resources to develop independent, life ready young adults. The programme is based upon the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks issued by the DFE in January 2018 and updated in April and September 2018, which all schools are encouraged to meet by 2020. The Benchmarks are as follows:

  • Benchmark 1: A stable career programme
  • Benchmark 2: Learning from career and labour market information
  • Benchmark 3: Addressing the needs of each student
  • Benchmark 4: Linking curriculum learning to careers
  • Benchmark 5: Encounters with employers and employees
  • Benchmark 6: Experience of workplaces
  • Benchmark 7: Encounters with further and higher education
