Sports Premium

Aspire Academy - Sport and P.E. Premium Funding

All schools are receiving additional funding from the government, to support their own curriculum programmes organised to further develop the provision and allocation of sports and P.E. provision.

What is the Sports Premium?

The government is providing funding of £150 million per annum for the academic years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16.  Each school will receive £8,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year for the next two years – The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of the funding

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible types of funding use include:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or sports coaches to work alongside teachers
  • New  sport clubs
  • Paying for staff development opportunities in PE/sport
  • Entering  sport competitions, or increasing participation in school games
  • Buying materials for PE/sport
  • Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs
  • Facilitating the Recreation For Life programme

At Aspire we have incorporated ‘Recreation for Life’ into the KS1 and KS2 curriculum from September 2014. This not only enhances the sports provision for the students but enables all our Primary students to experience activities they may otherwise not be exposed to.

In 2014-2015 all primary students had a Dance lesson each week with Michelle Rochister as well as experiencing Cycling, swimming, gymnastics and skiing through Recreation for Life.

The following is planned for 2015-16

  • Judo
  • Trampolining
  • gymnastics
  • Cycling
  • Swimming
  • Tennis – professional coach employed

In addition to the above we are looking at

  • improving the sports equipment
  • extending our playground games equipment in order to encourage pupils to participate in self-motivated physical activities
  • purchasing a new and more robust, secure shed for the games equipment
